What is Pick 4?
Pick 4 is a lottery which has two draws a day and works a bit differently to most other draw games as you have more control over various elements - such as how to play and how much to wager. Most state lotteries have their own version of the game, but Vermont's Pick 4 is actually exactly the same as New Hampshire's and Maine's as the three jurisdictions jointly form the Tri-State Lottery.
When do draws take place?
Draws are held every day at 1:10 PM ET and 6:55 PM ET.
What time do ticket sales close?
The cut-off time for the Day draw is 1:00 PM ET. For the Evening draw, ticket sales close at 6:45 PM ET.
What are the different ways I can play?
You can play a Straight and try to match all four numbers between 0 and 9 in exact order, or a Box if you just want to try to match them in any order. Alternatively, there are also Pair and Single Digit plays. Go to the
Ways to Play page for full details.
How much can I wager?
You can choose between a range of play amounts, from as little as $0.50 to a maximum of $5.
How much can I win?
Prize amounts in Pick 4 are based on your play type and how much you wager. Go to the
Odds and Prizes section for a table that shows all the payouts. If you play a Box wager, the amount you can win also depends on whether your number combination is 4-Way, 6-Way, 12-Way or 24-Way.
What are 4-Way, 6-Way, 12-Way and 24-Way plays?
A 4-Way play has three identical numbers and one that is different, such as 1112. A 6-Way play features two sets of pairs, for example 3344. If you have two identical numbers and two that are unique, such as 5567, it is a 12-Way play. Four different numbers, such as 1234, make a 24-Way combination, as there are '24 ways' that those numbers can be arranged.
What are the odds of winning?
The odds of winning a Straight play are 1 in 10,000. Your chances are different for each of the other play types.
How many consecutive draws can I play?
You have the option to enter up to 21 consecutive days on a playlip, so if you play both draw times this would make 42 consecutive draws.
What is the minimum age to play?
You must be at least 18 years old to buy lottery tickets in Vermont.
How do I claim a prize if I win?
You can claim Pick 4 prizes of any value by mailing in your winning ticket to the Vermont Lottery, 1311 US Route 302, Suite 100, Barre, VT 05641-2399. Winnings of up to $499 can be redeemed at retail locations, while larger amounts can be claimed from M&T Banks in the state or the Vermont Lottery Headquarters in Berlin.
How long do I have to claim prizes?
All prizes must be claimed within 365 days of the relevant Pick 4 draw.
Will taxes be withheld on my prize?
Taxes are only withheld on prizes of more than $5,000. The rate of state tax is 6 percent, while federal withholding starts at 24 percent.
